Have your say on the new Employment Accessibility Standard
In 2006, 49.5 per cent of people with disabilities between ages 15 and 64 were unemployed, compared to 24.5 per cent of those without disabilities. There is a huge untapped labour market – by eliminating simple barriers to employment your business can discover a new resource of skilled and committed employees.
The province is seeking comments from the public on the proposed Employment Accessibility Standard developed as part of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The standards development committee is interested in hearing your responses to these questions:
1. How will the proposed standard help to improve accessibility for people with disabilities?
2. What do you like or dislike about the proposed standard?
3. Is the proposed standard clear and understandable?
4. What are your views about the scope and application of the proposed standard?
5. What will be some of the potential positive or negative effects on your organization?
6. Are the requirements of the proposed standard appropriate in terms of scope, application, technical feasibility and timelines for implementation?
Please email your feedback by May 22, 2009 to publicreview@ontario.ca
